Play 3, 2008
Edith
Stein
|
 |
One woman's search for truth… in a world of evil
 |
Edith Stein was a German philosopher, who was born a
Jew, became a Catholic in 1922 and then a Carmelite nun
in 1934. She was rounded up with other Jews under the
Nazi holocaust and died at Auschwitz in 1942.
The play traces Edith's journey from the university, to the
convent and eventually to the gas chamber and dramatises the
tensions between Christians and Jews that have developed around
a woman that incarnates both identities.
2008 marks the tenth anniversary of
her canonisation. |

Mockingbird" in 2005 and the swaggering, belligerent Big
Daddy in Tennessee Williams "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". |
