Ingredients:
600 ml Orange Juice (fresh or bottled).
300 ml water.
4 lemons.
2 oranges + 2 oranges for decoration.
50 cloves.
125g sugar.
3 sticks cinnamon.
2 litres red wine of choice.
150ml brandy (optional)
Method:
In large saucepan place water, lemon juice, orange juice, juice and
skin of
2 oranges, sugar, cinnamon sticks, and 1 teaspoon of cloves.
Bring to the boil, stirring occasionally.
Boil for 5 minutes, stir and let liquid stand for 15 minutes.
Strain liquid.
Prick the other two oranges all over with a fork, stud the orange skins
with the cloves in a decorative manner, and reserve.
Pour red wine into a large saucepan or casserole, add syrup (add brandy if
desired) and decorated oranges. Heat through.
Do not boil.
To serve:
Transfer mulled wine into punch-bowl or small serving jug using ladle or small
jug. Float oranges.
Do not attempt to pour hot wine.
