The
Play
Neil
Simon, America’s best known multi-award winning playwright,
excels in presenting the frustrations and vagaries of life with
delicious humour. His comic concoction RUMORS is based on a dinner
party where four snazzily-dressed couples gather at the home of Charlie
and Myra Brock to
celebrate the tenth wedding anniversary of their hosts.
But Charlie is lying upstairs with a bullet hole in his ear lobe, and Myra is nowhere to
be seen.
We are pitched headlong into high-voltage hilarity as the friends try
frantically to protect their host (who is deputy mayor of New York), and
themselves, by hiding the evening’s events from the outside
world.
As Clive Barnes of the New York Post wrote:
“Broadway has something to cheer about again. This maze of
mendacity is light, frothy and fun!”
Currently negotiating the maze in rehearsal are Damian Mead, Aleathea
Monsour, Katy Forde, Luke Monsour, Trish Carroll, Jeremy West, Fiona
Kennedy, Dan Kennedy, Barry de Sylva and Kate Clark. David Jones is
stage manager, and the set is being magicked into reality by Rod
Thompson, Heinz Brunner and Barry de Sylva.
